The Beatles- I'll Cry Instead

If I Could Get My Way, I'd Get Myself Locked Up Today

Today's Beatles song of the day is "I'll Cry Instead"

I've got every reason on earth to be mad
Cause I just lost the only girl I had
And if I could get my way
I'd get myself locked up today
But I can't
So I'll cry instead

I've got a chip on my shoulder that's bigger than my feet
I can't talk to people that I meet
And if I could see you now
I'd try to make you sad somehow
But till then
I'll cry instead

Don't wanna cry when there's people there
I get shy when they start to stare
I'm gonna lock myself away
But I'll come back again someday

And when I do you better hide all the girls
I'm gonna break their hearts all around the world
Yes I'm gonna break em in two
And show you what your loving man can do
Until then
I'll cry instead

Don't wanna cry when there's people there
I get shy when they start to stare
I'm gonna lock myself away
But I'll come back again someday

And when I do you better hide all the girls
I'm gonna break their hearts all around the world
Yes I'm gonna break em in two
And show you what your loving man can do
Until then,
I'll cry instead

This track comes from the album "A Hard Day's Night"and was written by John Lennon. The lyrics of the song are described by Cynthia Lennon as "A cry for help" and goes on to say "It reflects the frustration he [John Lennon] felt at that time. He was the idol of millions, but the freedom and fun of the early days had gone." John himself would later say that the line "Chip on my shoulder that's bigger than my feet" was an accurate description of how he was feeling at the time.

She Came In Through the Bathroom Window- The Beatles (Abbey Road)

She Worked at 15 Clubs a Day

Today's Beatles song of the day is "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window"

She came in through the bathroom window
Protected by a silver spoon
Now she sucks her thumb and wonders
By the banks of her own lagoon

Didn't anybody tell her?
Didn't anybody see?
Sunday's on the phone to Monday
Tuesday's on the phone to me

She said she'd always been a dancer
She worked at 15 clubs a day
And though she though I knew the answer
Well I knew, but I could not say

So I quit the police department
And got myself a steady job
And though she tried her best to help me
She could steal but she could not rob

Didn't anybody tell her?
Didn't anybody see?
Sunday's on the phone to Monday
Tuesday's on the phone to me
Oh yeah.

This track comes from the album "Abbey Road" and according to wikipedia, "McCartney said the song was inspired by the Apple Scruffs (dedicated fans who hung around outside the Abbey Road studio and the homes of the Beatles), who broke into McCartney's St. John's Wood home. Diane Ashley, one of the group, says: "We were bored, he was out and so we decided to pay him a visit. We found a ladder in his garden and stuck it up at the bathroom window which he'd left slightly open. I was the one who climbed up and got in." She then opened the front door to let the others in, and they stole a number of photographs. Another Apple scruff, Margo Bird, remembers being good friends with McCartney - she would often take his dog for walks - and later got a job at Apple Corps. She says that she was asked to retrieve a certain photograph, which she did."

You Might as Well Resign Yourself To Me

The Beatles song of the day: "I'll Get You"

Imagine I'm in love with you
It's easy cause I know
I've imagined I'm in love with you
Many, many, many times before

It's not like me to pretend
But I'll get you, I'll get you in the end
Yes I will, I'll get you in the end

I think about you night and day
I need you and it's true
When I think about you I can say
I'm never, never, never blue

So I'm telling you my friend
That I'll get you, I'll get you in the end
Yes I will, I'll get you in the end

Well there's gonna be a time
When I'm gonna change your mind
So you might as well resign yourself to me

Imagine I'm in love with you
It's easy cause I know
I've imagined I'm in love with you
Many, many, many times before

It's not like me to pretend
But I'll get you, I'll get you in the end
Yes I will, I'll get you in the end

This track was released as the b-side to the single of "She Loves You". It was written as a collaborative effort between John Lennon and Paul McCartney at Lennon's home of Menlove Avenue. The opening lyric was described by McCartney as the first time one could really sense the Beatles Lewis Carroll influence.

There Will Be Times When All The Things She Said Will Fill Your Head

Today's Beatles song of the day is..."For No One"

Your day breaks
Your mind aches
You find that all her words of kindness linger on
When she no longer needs you

She wakes up
She makes up
She takes her time and doesn't feel she has to hurry
She no longer needs you

And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears
Cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years

You want her
You need her
And yet you don't believe her when she says her love is dead
You think she needs you

And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears
Cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years

You stay home
She goes out
She says that long ago she knew someone
But now he's gone
She doesn't need him

Your day breaks
Your mind aches
There will be times when all the things she said will fill your head
You won't forget her

And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears
Cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years

This
track comes from the album "Revolver". Inspired by what Paul McCartney described as, "I suspect it was about another argument. [with Jane Asher]" John Lennon said of this track-"One of my favourites of his—a nice piece of work."

We All Wanna Change Your Head

Today's Beatles song of the day: "Revolution"

You say you want a revolution
Well you know
We all wanna change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well you know
We all wanna change the world

But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know that you can count me out

Don't you know it's gonna be
All right
All right
All right

You say you got a real solution
Well you know
We'd all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
Well you know
We're all doing what we can

But if you want money from people with minds that hate
All I can tell you is brother you have to wait

Don't you know it's gonna be
All right
All right
All right

Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah...

You say you'll change the constitution
Well you know
We all wanna change your head
You tell me it's the institution
Well you know
You better free your mind instead

But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao
You ain't gonna make it with anyone anyhow

Don't you know it's gonna be
all right
all right
all right
all right
all right
all right
all right
all right
all right

This track was released as the B-side to "Hey Jude" on August 26, 1968. Written by John Lennon, the lyrics were him finally being able to express a political viewpoint after not being able to do so for many years.

Don't Forget Me, Martha My Dear

Today's Beatles Song of the day is: "Martha My Dear"

Martha my dear
Though I spend my days in conversation
Please
Remember me Martha my love
Don't forget me Martha my dear

Hold your head up you silly girl
Look what you've done
When you find yourself in the thick of it
Help yourself to a bit of what is all around you
Silly girl

Take a good look around you
Take a look you're bound to see
That you and me were meant to be for each other
Silly Girl

Hold your hand out you silly girl
See what you've done
When you find yourself in the thick of it
Help yourself to a bit of what is all around you
Silly Girl

Martha my dear
You have always been my inspiration
Please
Be good to me Martha my love
Don't forget me Martha my dear

This track comes from the White Album, and was written by Paul McCartney who was the only Beatle to appear on the track. The name Martha was taken from McCartney's English sheep dog who was also named Martha. The inspiration for the lyrics has been speculated to be Jane Asher .

The sun is shining down, burns my feet as they touch the ground

Today's Beatles song of the day: "Good Day Sunshine"

Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine

I need to laugh and when the sun is out
I've got something I can laugh about
I feel good in a special way
I'm in love and it's a sunny day

Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine

We take a walk
The sun is shining down
Burns my feet as they touch the ground

Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine

Then we lie beneath a shady tree
I love her and she's loving me
She feels good, she knows she's looking fine
I'm so proud to know that she is mine

Good day sunshine

Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine

This song comes from the album "Revolver" and was written by Paul McCartney with some help from John Lennon. Not one of their more lyrically complex songs, it was inspired by the Lovin' Spoonful's song "Daydream".

I have had enough, so act your age

Today's Beatles song of the day is...
"You Won't See Me"

When I call you up
Your line's engaged
I have had enough
So act your age

We have lost the time
That was so hard to find
And I will loose my mind
If you won't see me

I don't know why you
Should want to hide
But I can't get through
My hands are tied

I won't want to stay
I don't have much to say
But I can turn away
And you won't see me

Time after time you refuse to even listen
I wouldn't mind if I knew what I was missing

Though the days are few
They're filled with tears
And since I lost you
It feels like years

Yes it seems so long
Girl since you've been gone
I just can't go on
If you won't see me

This track comes from the Album "Rubber Soul" and was inspired by Paul McCartney's relationship with Jane Asher, who was not returning his calls and just flat out ignoring him. It's one of the few Beatles songs where Paul actually sings the lower harmony.

You Know You Got Me Going Now, Just Like You Knew You Would

I've decided that I want to start doing a Beatles song of the day. To start us out, today's song is "Twist and Shout".

Well shake it up baby now
(shake it up baby)
Twist and shout
(Twist and Shout)
Come on, come on, come on, come on baby now
(Come on baby)
Come on and work it on out
(Work it on out)

Well work it on out honey
(Work it on out)
You know you look so good
(Look so good)
You know you got me going now
(Got me going)
Just like I knew you would
(Like I knew you would oooh!)

Well shake it up baby now
(Shake it up baby)
Twist and shout
(Twist and Shout)
Come on, come on, come on, come on baby now
(Come on baby)
Come on and work it all out
(Work it all out ooh!)

You know you're a twisty little girl
(Twist little girl)
You know you twist so fine
(Twist so fine)
Come on and twist a little closer now
(Twist a little closer)
And let me know that you're mine
(Let me know your mine ooh!)

Ahhhhhhhhhh, Ahhhhhhhhhh,
Ahhhhhhhhhh, Ahhhhhhhhhhh,
Ahhhhh, Ahhhhh, Woah, Yeah

Well shake it up baby now
(Shake it up baby)
Twist and shout
(Twist and Shout)
Come on, come on, come on, come on baby now
(Come on baby)
Come on and work it on out
(Work it on out oooh!)

You know you're a twisty little girl
(Twist little girl)
You know you twist so fine
(Twist so fine)
Come on and twist a little closer now
(Twist a little closer)
And let me know that you're mine
(Let me know your mine oooh!)

Well, shake it, shake it, shake it, baby, now

(shake it up baby)
Well, shake it, shake it, shake it, baby, now

(shake it up baby)

Well, shake it, shake it, shake it, baby, now

(shake it up baby)

Ahhhhhhhhhh

Ahhhhhhhhhh

Ahhhhhhhhhh

Ah!

Originally by the Isley Brothers, the Beatles version can be found on the album "Please Please Me". John Lennon, having barely any voice left after a full day of recording, belts it out and just shreds his vocal chords to the point where you can hear him gagging at the end of the song.
It was famously used in the movie "Ferris Buehler's Day Off" in the scene where Ferris commandeers a parade float.
This track is one of those rare cases where the cover actually surpasses the original in all facets.
